Given the strike by the State’s lawyers and notaries, which could continue for a few weeks, here is some advice for tenants and landlords awaiting a hearing.
Note that only hearings for the fixing of rent, presided by a special clerk, are affected by this work stoppage.
In the meantime, you can still negotiate amicably in order to reach an agreement that satisfies both parties. If an agreement is reached, please notify us in writing and indicate your file number.
We remind you also that you can still use our conciliation service. Participating in conciliation does not mean that it will take longer to obtain a hearing date if an agreement is not reached.
To find out whether your hearing has been cancelled, please consult our website at least one week prior to the date of your scheduled appearance.
Follow these steps:
On the homepage of our website, consult the section Processing status of your case, then click on Follow-up of a file at the Régie du logement (in French only).
Next, enter your file number in the space provided, and click on Rechercher (search).
On the page displayed, the AUDIENCE (hearing) line, in the INFORMATION column, will indicate whether your hearing has been cancelled (annulée).
You can also reach us by phone at the following numbers:
Montréal, Laval and Longueuil
514 873-BAIL (2245)
Elsewhere
1 800 683-BAIL (2245)
Note that if your hearing has been cancelled, it will be deferred (postponed) to a later date. In that case, you will receive a new notice of hearing.
Thank you for your understanding!
